Steve Earle - Hardly Strictly Bluegrass - 10/04/2014

If i were to describe Steve Earle in one word, it’d be: badass. He calls it as he sees it, and I respect this. He’s seen the high’s of the music industry (Grammy awards, critical acclaim), and the lows of life (drug addiction, prison). I’ve been a big fan of Steve Earle for many years, and from his first album Guitar Town in 1986 thru his 2013 album The Low Highway, he’s carried on the tradition of true Americana and never been scared to throw country music back in Nashville’s face. Along with Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle is always a staple at the free Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in Golden Gate Park, and i’m always stoked to see him there.

In addition to performing his own set at the massive free festival on October 4th, 2014, Steve Earle also performed as part of a tribute to the late great’s Jessie Winchester, Earl Scruggs, Hazel Dickens, and Warren Hellman (who created the festival). During this tribute set, Earle performed with Peter Rowan (pictured below) while earlier in the same day, he sat in with tour mate Shawn Colvin (above). Accompanying Earle as part of his band ‘The Dukes’ were Austin, TX based duo The Mastersons. The Mastersons
